Get Involved! 2012-13 BESA September Elections

Hey IBBME,

It's time for the second round of elections for BESA positions. The following positions are open to both new and returning IBBME students:

General Executive (YOU!, non-elected):

BESA welcomes all members of IBBME to join us. Any events you want to hold and require funding from BESA you can contact us and sit in on our meetings. If you are interested, nominate yourself with your utoronto email and we will make sure to email you our meeting times.

Scientific Day Conference Coordinator (1 position):

The conference coordinator works closely between departmental administrators, professors and a committee consisting of students to organize ‘Scientific Day’, the Institute’s internal conference. A large amount of commitment is required for this role and will begin in the Fall and continue until June. Searching/Inviting keynotes speakers, organizing poster and judging sessions, publishing an event booklet, collecting abstracts and reviewing them are just some of the many tasks that needs to be coordinated.

Events Coordinator (2 positions):

The events coordinators helps with the organization of professional, charitable and social/athletic events run by BESA. Thus working closely with the Professional development and Outreach Officer and general executives to launch their events.

University Affairs Representative (2 positions):

University affairs representatives are persons who provide oversight to committees and unions external to the Association such as the Graduate Student Union, Faculty Council, Safety Committee, IBBME Distinguished Lecturer Committee among others. This allow the Association and its membership to stay aware of current events that may affect their graduate career.

First-year Clinical Representative (1 position, first-year only):

Clinical representatives give the students in the Master of Health Science in Clinical Biomedical Engineering (MHSc) students an additional voice and contact point in the activities of BESA as they represent a part of our membership with different needs. In addition, they can use BESA's resources to plan and organize clinical-engineering specific events. There are two clinical representatives, one to represent the 1st year class and another for the 2nd year class.

Feel free to nominate yourself or someone you know for any of these positions. Please send a picture of yourself with a blurb (~ 150 words) introducing yourself and describing why you would be well suited for the position. Only individual nominations, please. (i.e. no pairs of people running together for a single position) Nominations can be sent to Albert at albertnano.lam@mail.utoronto.ca

We will be accepting nominations until September 12th at 11:59pm. Voting will begin soon after and runs until the end of August. This year, everyone who votes will be put into a draw for the chance to win one of two $50 gift cards to Shoppers Drug Mart.
