1. Identify your program of interest
- Review our graduate programs (MEng / MASc / PhD). Each program is independent, and the application for one program cannot be reused for another. Similarly, each admission competition is independent, and applications from prior year(s) cannot be reused for consideration.

- Decide on your program of choice.
2. Prepare your application documents
- Do not send unsolicited application documents to the Graduate Office email or mailbox.
- Review your documents (e.g. statement of intent) for accuracy and completeness before submission because files cannot be revised after submission.
Transcripts should provide the full academic history of the applicant to date.
- Certified English translations are required for all international documentation written in a language other than English. IBBME does not recommend translators, but the translator must be certified. Translations do not replace original documentation. Both the original documents and translations must be submitted together.
- Transcripts (hard copy) must arrive as sealed documents from the issuing institution, within the original envelop, and carry the institutional stamp to certify authenticity.
- Applicants should scan transcripts in grayscale at the lowest dots-per-inch setting (SGS recommends 72 dpi) that results in a legible document.
- The full transcript together with a transcript legend must be clearly visible as a pdf file for each institution you have attended.
- Official transcripts are required from all post-secondary institutions attended (include all programs completed, attempted, or in progress).
- U of T students must also upload an official U of T transcript.

3. Complete and submit your online application
- Apply to Biomedical Engineering through the School of Graduate Studies (SGS) online admissions application. Click on “Step 3” to start the application process.
- Enter your personal information, select your program of study, and list your academic history.
- Pay the application fee ($120 CAD). Fee payment is required to activate the invitation for referees to submit their letters.
- A separate application and non-refundable application fee payment is required for every degree program to which you are applying.

4. Secure a research supervisor (MASc/PhD programs)
- Applicants are welcome to apply at any time during the application window.
- Applicants may search for a supervisor before or after submitting an application. Click on “Step 4” to view a list of our faculty members.
- Admission is highly competitive and all research-stream (MASc/PhD) applicants must secure a research supervisor before an admission offer can be made.
- Applicants should ask the prospective supervisor(s) to contact the Graduate Office and confirm their support for your application to expedite the admission process.
5. Apply for the Ontario Graduate Scholarship (recommended)
- Research stream applicants should also apply for the Ontario Graduate Scholarship (OGS), and other sources of external funding if applicable.
- The OGS program provides merit-based scholarships to Ontario’s best graduate students in all disciplines of academic study. Click on "Step 5" for more information.
6. Complete and return your admission offer (if applicable)
- If you have government or agency support (e.g. CONACYT) for your studies, please ask the funding agency to send a letter to the Graduate Office detailing the funding, which they will provide for you academic program.
- Mail your supporting documents (e.g. official transcripts) to:
